The Boston Celtics are looking to keep veteran forward Al Horford beyond next season.
Horford could actually become a free agent this summer if he decides to opt out of his $30.1 million contract for next season. The Celtics are in a tricky situation this offseason, as they have a lot of decisions to make in free agency. As for Horford, Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald revealed that the two sides are already talking about a new deal.
The Celtics are reportedly trying to convince Horford to opt out of his contract for next season. In turn, the Celtics would offer a lower salary for next season but it would be under a three-year contract, which could give Horford some sort of stability in the remaining years of his career.
Article Continues BelowHowever, it remains to be seen whether or not Horford would agree to such agreement. The 33-year-old big man reportedly remains undecided on his player option. He has until Tuesday to decide, but the deadline could be extended if the two parties agree.
Horford has spent the last three seasons with the Celtics after playing nine seasons with the Atlanta Hawks. In 68 games last season, the Horford averaged 13.6 points on 53.5 percent shooting from the field on top of 6.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game.
