In a nailbiting game at Oracle Arena between the two top teams in each conference, the Golden State Warriors beat the Boston Celtics, 109-105. This was the Celtics 15th loss of the season and now have a 35-15 record. Even after the loss, they still lead the East by one and a half games. But as reported by Adam Himmelsbach from The Boston Globe, this defeat marked the first time the Celtics lost despite winning the rebounding battle.

Boston outrebounded Golden State 45 to 43. It was not a very big difference, as reflected in the final score, but it still marked the first time they lost under such conditions. The main rebounding contributors were Al Horford, who grabbed 13 boards (three of which were on the offensive end), Aron Baynes, who added seven, and Marcus Morris, who grabbed eight rebounds off the bench.

In their other 14 losses, the Celtics were outrebounded by an average of 6.5 boards per loss. They were outrebounded by as much as 24 one time and tied in rebounding with the team that beat them twice.

The Celtics had an opportunity to take the win, but Warriors guard Stephen Curry was unstoppable in the final frame. Over the last two minutes of the game, the two-time MVP scored 13 points and essentially put the game out of reach for Boston. Steph capped his performance with two free throws that sealed the deal with one second left on the clock. Curry finished with 49 points, five assists, four rebounds, and two steals, shooting 16-for-24 from the field with only one turnover. The Celtics had no answer for him.
