The NBA released its official schedule for the 2019-20 season on Monday. Tim Reynolds of The Associated Press pointed out on Twitter that the Boston Celtics are taking a break from tradition and will not be hosting an early home game on Super Bowl Sunday:

The Celtics have been one of the teams annually suiting up on what usually is a light NBA schedule on Super Bowl Sunday. This year, however, Boston will not be one of those teams.

Super Bowl Sunday 2020 will be on Feb. 2 at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida. Per the NBA schedule, there will be four NBA games on that particular day, all of which will tip off at 3:00 p.m. ET. Likewise, there will be only one nationally televised NBA contest during that day, featuring the Houston Rockets hosting the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Celtics, instead, will have a scheduled home game the night before, hosting the rival Philadelphia 76ers. They will then head over to Atlanta to play the Hawks on Feb. 3.

Despite veering away from an annual tradition, the Celtics will still participate on the NBA's marquee dates. Likewise, they still have 34 nationally televised contests on their schedule, one of the highest marks in the NBA.

They open their regular season on Day 2, in a road game against former All-Star big man Al Horford and the Sixers.  The Celts will then face the defending champion Toronto Raptors in their first home game of the season two days later. They will also play their fourth Christmas Day game in a row, also against the defending champs.
