For as good as the Boston Celtics were in 2015-16, they lacked one key ingredient to a championship—a superstar.
According to Chris Mannix of The Vertical, the Celtics plan on making a run at the biggest superstar in the free agent pool this offseason, Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant. Manic reports:
“The Celtics believe Durant will meet with them this summer, but they know that meeting won’t accomplish much unless there are significant moves leading into it.”
Boston's season came to an end on Thursday night after a six-game series loss to the Atlanta Hawks. While the Celtics had some nice highlights to the season, including being one of several teams to defeat the Golden State Warriors, it was clear they weren't going to win a championship.

The team has a solid nucleus in place with young head coach Brad Stevens and a nice collection of young players willing to buy into the team-first, defensive-friendly system Stevens like to operate at.
It would appear this is appealing trait to Durant, who said as much when talking about the Celtics last month.
Boston will have as much as $33 million in cap space, and would likely have to entice another All-Star player for Durant to give the Celtics serious consideration.
It should definitely be an interesting offseason for general manager Danny Ainge.
