Yet the Celtics managed to beat all odds and make their way to the Eastern Conference Finals. Without their two best players, the Celtics have relied upon great coaching by Brad Stevens, veteran leadership by Al Horford, and superb play from young guns Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

Horford, in fact, reflected on the impact of Brown in their team. He compared the Celtics group this year to last year. He noted that nobody really mentored Brown. He learned by observing and listening. As per Jackie MacMullan of ESPN:

“Last year was definitely a different group” Horford concedes. “We had some guys out here scrapping, grinding but also doing a lot of talking. No one really pulled Jaylen under their wing. But Jaylen observed, he listened, and I think he learned a lot.”

“It's hard when you are so young to take those chances,” Horford says. “I don't know if I would have been able to do it at his age. I admire Jaylen. For most of us, it takes years to become comfortable in your own skin. Jaylen is already there.”
