The Boston Celtics have reached rock bottom this season. The team blew a 25-point lead against the struggling New York Knicks in Madison Square Garden. An inability to close out games strong has plagued this roster all season long, and this latest loss is just more proof of their struggles.

This embarrassing loss made a certain ex-Celtics player call out the squad on live television. Kendrick Perkins, who now works as an analyst called this Boston team “broken”, as their mental fortitude has been shot all year long. (via NBCS Celtics on Twitter)

“When you look at this Celtics team right now, I think the word is ‘broken,'” Perkins said. “When the Knicks made that run in the third quarter, I said to myself ‘once they cut it to seven [points] going into the fourth, it's about to be over.”

Perk is infamous amongst NBA fans as an analyst with terrible takes on basketball topics, but this particular take makes sense. How else can you describe a team that blown the most 15+ point leads this season, and is also 1-6 in games that were deemed as “clutch situations”? No matter which way you slice it, the Celtics are not a cohesive team right now, and their incredibly unlikely loss to the Knicks proved that.

Ime Udoka, the Celtics' new head coach, preached after the game about mental toughness and needing a calming presence. We'll see if the coach's harsh words will spark change on this roster, or if it will lead to more problems as the season progresses.
