With only days left before the start of the regular season, Kyrie Irving is still soaking in his new home after going an undefeated 4-0 as a member of the Boston Celtics.
The transition was sudden and unexpected, but one Irving jumped at the chance to get, even leaving more than $5 million on the table with his trade-kicker clause.
The Celtics' star point guard looked in mid-season form in his third outing with the team against the Charlotte Hornets, racking up 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting along with 10 assists and five rebounds, getting an early rest after 27 minutes of play.
“Boston, I'm driving in and (thinking), ‘I'm really playing in a real, live sports city?'” Irving told reporters Wednesday, according to Rick Bonnell of The Charlotte Observer.
“A lot of different cultures, food and people. You get it all, especially in Boston. You would go to Cleveland, and it would be at nighttime, and things would be going on, but you just see a vast difference.”
Kyrie Irving spent the first six years of his NBA career with the Cleveland Cavaliers after being selected as the top pick in 2011. He requested a trade from the front office early in the offseason, which landed him in Boston in exchange for Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic, a 2018 first-round pick and a 2020 second-rounder.
