Brad Stevens said postgame he doesn't know what Irving's playing status will be moving forward. Boston hosts the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday. Irving has only missed two games this season and entered Monday averaging 23.3 points per game, which leads the Celtics.
If for some reason Kyrie Irving has to miss time, Terry Rozier will step into the starting lineup. Rozier started 16 games last season and the entire 2018 playoffs after Irving went down with his knee injury which required season-ending surgery.
Irving, 26, will become an unrestricted free agent after this season ends if he declines his 2019-20 player option with Boston.
