On Sunday, Kyrie Irving’s debut playing in front of the Boston Celtics fans happened, as he took part in their scrimmage. He received a huge ovation from them, as he is now part of the storied franchise, and will be tasked to lead team to greater success in the coming years.

Asked how he felt playing in Beantown for the first time wearing the Celtics’ colors, the 25-year-old Duke product explained how he loved the energy inside the TD Garden, via Mark Murphy of the Boston Herald.

He then added that the scene and sounds in the arena are incomparable, before explaining why he thinks it looks like the old Boston Garden.

“The energy. The energy, man,” said Irving, before going into intricate detail with a unique description of the Garden parquet.

“It has that vintage, intimate, kind of replicated vibe for what the Garden used to look like,” he said of the original Garden. “The misfit of the squares in where they’re placed on the floor. They’re going in opposite directions — the perpendicular one if you know what I’m saying. I just appreciate all that. And then the nets as well as the whole intimacy as well. I just like the whole aura of it.

“It’s nothing like it. It’s nothing like it. Even the energy in here, I can feel it. All these fans about to pile in. It’s about to be a great day.”

The energy he felt might just be what he needs to give him extra motivation to play harder, as he knows the Boston faithful expect nothing but the best from their team this coming season. Armed with a retooled lineup, Danny Ainge and company were very busy in the offseason building the most formidable group of players that could take them to the next level.

While there is no doubt that Irving is an elite player in the league today, taking on a bigger with the Celtics could be a defining point of his career. If he can lead his new team and live up to the expectations of their supporters, it will cement his place as one of the best players of this generation, and the energy inside their home arena will definitely make it easier for him to reach.
