Nike, Concept, and Boston Celtics guard Kyrie Irving have joined together to create the new “Ikhet” Nike Kyrie 5, which draws heavily on Ancient Egyptian themes.
Via slamoinline.com, Concepts Creative Director Deon Point described the influences behind the shoe.
“I found out the mortar used remains a mystery to scientists — they still can’t figure how it stuck together, but it’s some of the strongest stuff ever made. I learned that the limestone glowing in the sun made the pyramids glow brighter than a diamond. And one thing that really got me: there was a 20-ton door on one of the pyramids that was so precise, you can’t squeeze a credit card through the seams — but it can be opened with one hand.”
Point was clearly impressed by the Ancient Egyptian's attention to detail, precision, and beauty, and it seems like he has translated all of these aspects into his latest masterpiece involving Nike and Kyrie Irving.

The red tongue pays homage to the Sphinx, an Egyptian mythological creature whose statue in Egypt is thought to have been painted dark red at one point.
The heel of the shoe contains the Eye of Ra, which symbolizes one of Ancient Egypt's most powerful and important gods and also serves as a symbol of protection.
Even the Nike check has Egyptian symbology and contains tiny pyramid shapes chiseled into it. The shoes are expected to drop on December 26th, the day after Christmas, making it the perfect gift for sneakerheads and NBA fans alike.
