Kyrie Irving made perhaps a first when it comes to ballsy player offseason moves this summer, requesting a trade from a perennial championship and playing alongside arguably the best player in the world.

His choice to make a move took the NBA by storm, shocking teammates, opponents, and front offices who couldn't get their hands on a phone fast enough to inquire about his availability.

Now in a new jersey, the Boston Celtics star point guard dished on the thoughts that sparked his shocking decision to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers after three straight championship playoff runs.

“I would say when you have to satisfy a want for more, it’s an interesting conversation you have to have with yourself,” Irving told NBA.com's David Aldridge. “How much more do you want out of what you’re in right now? And that was an answer that led to me going to take the bold move of wanting to get traded — especially with two years left on my contract. It’s unheard of. But to have that understanding and know what I got myself into — I’m taking a leap of faith. With the confidence I have in myself, it was pretty easy. Like I said, I got pretty fortunate to have a situation like this to come across, for Danny to take a chance like that.”

Irving has been constantly quoted saying he's had an internal battle trying to figure out just what he can be and if he had shown the full array of his abilities when playing in wine-and-gold.

His choice to become the top dog comes with much criticism from those in Cleveland and praise even from rivals like Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors — but is one that ultimately will help him further himself as a leader and tap into his full potential as the go-to guy in this Celtics offense.
