The Boston Celtics have not been off to a great start this season. After defying all expectations last season, the C's appear to have come crashing down to earth this term.

Start point guard Kyrie Irving recently proposed a theory on why he thinks the team has been underachieving thus far.

“I think last year, the young guys that are in the locker room now, some of the guys that are playing, they were a little bit younger,” Irving said, via Jay King of The Athletic. “They weren’t expected to do as much and I think that the amount of pressure that we put on them to perform every single night is something that they have to get used to, like being part of a great team like this. If you’re not playing to the standard then as a team we just don’t all click. I think once we get there and we find that consistency then we’ll be great.”

Irving does have a very valid point here. Last season, there were very little expectations from a team that had lost its two best players to injury. They were a ragtag group that consisted of raw talents; a makeshift unit that took the league by storm.

The bar was set so high, and now, so much is expected from the team. It's as if their own achievements have somehow worked against them at this point.

Nevertheless, there's certainly no time to feel sorry for themselves. As Irving explained, it's just a matter of getting used to. There is certainly a learning curve here, but once the Celtics put everything in order, it's definitely going to be worth the wait.
