Outside of his handles and clutch plays on the court, Boston Celtics star guard Kyrie Irving has also been known for his alter ego, Uncle Drew, in the Pepsi commercials series. His grandpa look, together with other players also appearing to be “old,” have taken basketball fans by storm as they are very much entertained with its episodes in the past years.
Now, the Uncle Drew series will take on the big screen as the preview of the film was recently released. It includes some footage where some big-name players and actors can be seen such as Shaquille O’Neal, Chris Webber, Nate Robinson, Reggie Miller and Erica Ash, among others.

Like in the commercials, it depicts the story of an old basketball player who surprises those watching him play in the streets and schooling young guns with his moves. He also plays alongside some other contemporaries of his and recalling their experiences in the past. In the movie though, Uncle Drew joins a basketball tournament in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the world-famous Rucker Park.
The film will be in theatres on June 28th and should be a must watch, not only for Irving’s fans but also for basketball fans of all ages. It’s expected to be a hit, based on how the commercial series has been much talked about in years past and will be interesting to see how the story will revolve around Uncle Drew, as well his friends who are all played by former NBA, WNBA players and actors.
