On Monday, the list of the most expensive tickets for next season's games were revealed, and surprisingly, a regular season matchup between the Dallas Mavericks and Phoenix Suns in April was ranked second on it. However, it does make sense that fans are willing to pay extra to watch it live, as it could be Dirk Nowitzki's final game in the NBA, should his team fail to make it to the playoffs.
While many were not shocked to see the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers game on Feb. 11 topping the list, as they are two powerhouses in the Eastern Conference, what added to the anticipation on that night is the scheduled jersey retirement ceremony of Paul Pierce as well.

To put the amount into perspective, the average ticket prices across all teams last season is between $35 and $215, according to the data gathered by Vivid Seats. The $1,620,64 current average of the Celtics-Cavs game is close to eight times that amount, which goes to show the importance of the night to the Beantown faithful.
Pierce announced his plan to retire from the NBA last summer, and played his last game on April 30, when the L.A. Clippers were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Utah Jazz. He spent 19 years in the league, 16 of those with the C's. He is widely considered as one of the best to don the Green and White jersey, and led them to their last championship back in 2008, together with Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen.
Earlier this summer, The Truth re-signed with the Celtics to retire with the team. It was a classy gesture from the organization, to honor the 10-time All-Star for his contributions during his playing days with them. His jersey retirement will only cement his place among the all-time greats of the league, and will forever be remembered for his competitiveness and desire to win.
