Coming into the season, there was a small faction that wondered if the Boston Celtics had too many cooks in the kitchen. In other words, they had too many guys who needed the ball.
After three embarrassing road losses capped off by a 109-102 defeat against the Brooklyn Nets on Monday night, Celtics guard Terry Rozier essentially said that much:
“I don’t think we’ve all been on a team like this,” Rozier said after the Nets loss, according to Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo Sports. “Young guys who can play, guys who did things in their career, the group that was together last year, then you bring Kyrie and Hayward back, it’s a lot with it.”
Rozier than added that he thinks the team is “too talented.”
The Celtics were without starting guards Kyrie Irving and Marcus Smart during their loss to Brooklyn but that shouldn't have led to a deep Boston team losing to the Nets just a couple of nights after he questioned his teammates following a loss to the Orlando Magic.
Boston looked like it was on the right track during a four-game winning streak that included a dominant 27-point victory over the Indiana Pacers last week but the C's then went and lost three straight, all on the road.
Road woes have been an issue for Boston all year. While they were 25-18 overall, they are just 10-13 away from TD Garden, something that was also a concern for them during last year's playoffs.
There is still plenty of time for Boston to right the ship but these intermittent lapses throughout stretches of dominance are definitely concerning.
