It is not often a player draws MVP chants on the road. Boston Celtics point guard Kyrie Irving managed to do just that versus the Washington Wizards on Wednesday night.

Irving's vintage performance won the admiration of fans in attendance. He was even able to draw MVP chants from them, via ESPN:

It was certainly not an ideal situation for players on the Wizards. However, it was understandable. Irving put up perhaps the most impressive performance Capital One Arena has seen in the 2018-19 NBA season. It is clear the fans only felt it right to repay him with their praise.

Irving finished with 38 points on 12-of-28 shooting to go with seven assists and three rebounds. Even more impressive was the spectacular fashion in which he did it. Both teams had traded blows throughout the entire game. However, he was finally able to put the game on ice with clutch back-to-back triples. It was during his final free throws when he was showered with the chants.

It should be noted that there was a solid portion of Celtics fans in attendance who likely helped kickstart them. Regardless, the clarity in the chant suggests it was a collective effort by almost everyone that was there. The chants are indicative of not only their appreciation for Irving's efforts, but perhaps their frustration with Washington's underwhelming season.

Regardless, the prospect of Irving potentially winning MVP is certainly something to think about. Although his numbers are not as eye-popping as some of the other marquee players in the league, he has been at the forefront of Boston's resurgence lately. Leading the Celtics to the best record in the Eastern Conference would undoubtedly help his bid.
