The 4th of July festivities for most people also included the anticipation on where Gordon Hayward will decide to play for starting next season. It took a lot of turns throughout the day as conflicting reports emerged, until he finally took to the Players’ Tribune to make his official announcement to join the Boston Celtics.
While waiting for him to make his statement, fans were keeping themselves busy by tweeting their thoughts on which among the C’s, Utah Jazz, and Miami Heat is the best fit for him. Others even found an old video of him which was made when he joined an eSports League back in 2011. It was a parody of LeBron James’ “The Decision,” which is the infamous way he let the whole world know that he was bringing his talents to South Beach seven years ago.

As it turned out, Gordon indeed decided on his future on Tuesday, as everyone expected. His message on his Players’ Tribune piece was heartfelt, as he thanked the city of Utah and the Jazz organization for helping him become the player that he is today. He even took time to give a special shoutout to the trainers and conditioning coaches of the team, who played a huge part in his development.
The Butler product will now be reunited with his college coach, Brad Stevens, who mentored him before he made the jump to the NBA. He will also have the opportunity to play alongside Isaiah Thomas and Al Horford, and form their own “Big 3”, which will definitely boost the Celtics’ chances of winning a championship in the near future.
