It may still be a week to go before the start of the new NBA season, but some players already appear to be in mid-season form. One of them is Boston Celtics point guard Isaiah Thomas.
The 5-foot-9 Celtic started the game against the Brooklyn Nets on Monday and led his team to victory. He finished the game with 19 points on 6-of-7 shooting in only 15:27 of playing time.
Although he did not end up with a rebound or assist and turned the the ball over five times, the team fed off Thomas' energy as he led a first quarter run which gave the C's the lead for good. The Celtics controlled the momentum from the get-go and played a fast-paced game. There are a lot of positive takeaways for head coach Brad Stevens with his squad's performance, including their overall rebounding and fastbreak conversions.
Article Continues BelowAfter making it to the playoffs last season, the Celtics are looking to continue their run of success this year. After acquiring Al Horford in free agency and adding this year's third-overall pick of the draft, Jaylen Brown, the Beantown faithful have higher expectations for their team – even as high as dethroning the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference.
With Thomas leading the way, he'll be relied upon for scoring and setting plays for his teammates. His averages from last year's All-Star season of 22.2 points, 3.0 rebounds and 6.2 assists in 32.2 minutes per game should only increase with Horford in the mix now.
If they can find a way to work well together, it will spell trouble for other teams who are also hoping of making a deep run in the playoffs.
