NBA fans got their first exciting taste of the postseason when the Boston Celtics defeated the Washington Wizards to clinch the seventh spot in the Eastern Conference. That victory was made possible thanks to a 50-point eruption by All-Star Jayson Tatum.

Let's take a quick look below at how Tatum performed in that play-in game and how his cards have responded to it.

Tatum’s Insane 50-Point Play-In Game

The Celtics entered the play-in tournament as the seventh seed in the East. To earn that spot in the actual playoffs, they had to go through the Wizards, headed by Russell Westbrook and Bradley Beal.

In 40 minutes on the floor, the 6-foot-8 forward notched 50 points, eight rebounds, four assists, two blocks, and a steal. He shot 14-of-32 from the field, 5-of-12 from beyond the arc, and 17-of-17 from the foul line.

Tatum’s 40.8% usage rate in that contest was beyond Beal’s 33.6% and Westbrook’s 28.8%. The young star also boasted an efficient offensive rating of 136 points produced per 100 possessions.

As a result of Tatum’s heroics, the Celtics have locked in on their current spot in the standings. They will soon face the second-seeded Brooklyn Nets in the playoffs.

The State of Jayson Tatum Rookie Cards

Tatum’s impressive showing made an immediate impact on his cards. A day before Boston defeated the Wizards, his PSA 10 base Prizm rookie card was at $431. A day after, that price went up all the way to $700 before settling at $590.

Even other Jayson Tatum rookie cards have joined in on the fun. His PSA 10 2017 Optic, which was just valued at $180 days ago, is now at $250. As seen from the numbers, it’s clear that the All-Star’s big game has indeed influenced an uptick in his card value.

Tatum’s recent explosion is the first boom for the postseason. If his game is any example, other NBA stars can experience a surge in value if they make noise in the playoffs. Keep an eye on these potential games so you can make wise decisions on the players you plan to invest in.
