Jaylen Brown didn't have his ideal welcome to the NBA, but the rookie showed plenty of promise during his preseason debut with the Boston Celtics against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Brown was met at the rim by another rookie trying to make a great first impression on Joel Embiid, who denied his dunk attempt early in the first half.

The 6-foot-8 California product got his revenge soon after, throwing down a right-handed dunk after getting past Richaun Holmes.

No one on his team is more bullish on his ability than point guard Terry Rozier.

“He had the crowd going crazy, so that's something he's going to be good for doing,” Rozier told Tom Westerholm of MassLive after the 92-89 loss. “He can jump out the gym. He's very athletic, so he's gonna see a lot of minutes this year, I feel. And once the game really slows down for him, it's gonna scary for a lot of people.”

Celtics head coach Brad Stevens also had some encouraging words about the rookie as well.

“I thought his first stint he looked like typical first stint, probably,” Stevens said post-game. “And then he played really well at the four for us late, which was really the first time that he's done that. This is part of what the preseason is about, learning and finding things.”

Voted most athletic by his rookie peers, Jaylen Brown showed flashes of brilliance during his 21 minutes of playing time, scoring eight points on 4-of-9 shooting with four rebounds, four assists and a steal.
