The Brooklyn Nets have announced that they have added another healthy body to their training camp that will start in a few days. Free agent forward Akil Mitchell was recently signed by the team, and will have the chance to compete for a roster spot, according to their official release on Nets.com. The exact terms of the deal were not released, per team policy.

The 25-year-old Virginia product went undrafted back in 2014. He went on to play in the D-League for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, and also took his talents overseas, where he saw action for Olympique Antibes in France and Kiwi club New Zealand Breakers. Last season, he played for the Long Island Nets, where he impressed Brooklyn’s scouts in his short stint with them.

Although it will be a tall order for him to make it past training camp, Akil Mitchell will definitely help bring out the best from the team’s other forwards. If he can play solid basketball and make it difficult for the coaching staff to let go of him, he could be assigned to their G-League affiliate, and also earn a call up should the Nets have a need for a player like him in the future.
