The Brooklyn Nets have opted to extend the contract of small forward Mitch Creek, with the team handing the 26-year-old a second 10-day deal.

According to a report posted by the Nets' G League affiliate, the Long Island Nets, Creek will be staying with the Nets for at least another 10 days.

The Brooklyn Nets have signed forward Mitch Creek to a second 10-day contract. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not released.

The Nets first signed Creek to a deal back in August of last year, but he was waived just two months later after failing to break into head coach Kenny Atkinson's rotation.

He was sent back to the Long Island Nets, where he would average a serviceable 14.4 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.0 steals in 30.6 minutes per ballgame.

However, with the Nets roster absolutely gutted by injuries, the team decided to call up Creek and offer him his first 10-day contract last January 25.

Despite averaging only 2.3 points, 1.7 rebounds, 0.3 assists, and 0.3 steals in his three games for Brooklyn, the team have opted to offer the Australian a second 10-day deal.

With guys like Caris LeVert (foot, expected to be back after the All-Star break), Spencer Dinwiddie (thumb surgery, out 3-6 weeks), Allen Crabbe (knee, no timetable) and Jared Dudley (hamstring, also without a timetable) all out of commission, the Nets rotation has suddenly become extremely thin, and Creek appears to be one of the beneficiaries.

With LeVert close to a return, it would not be surprising if Creek is sent back to Long Island sooner rather than later.
