After news came out that the New York Knicks may be looking to bring in veteran point guard Pablo Prigioni to their fold, their cross-town rivals may actually be trying to do the same. Instead of having him play for them though, it has been reported that the Brooklyn Nets are “exploring” possibilities of having him as one of their assistant coaches.

With young playmakers like D’Angelo Russell, Spencer Dinwiddie, and Jeremy Lin, the Nets could use the experience and veteran savvy of the Argentinian international and serve as a mentor to the three aforementioned players, according to Marc Berman of the New York Post.

“Prigioni is in New York this week after being invited by the Nets to spend a week with them. According to a source, he’s learning all phases of Brooklyn’s basketball operation.”

“It’s unclear if the Nets have interest in hiring Prigioni. They also have three intriguing point guards in D’Angelo Russell, Spencer Dinwiddie, and the injured Jeremy Lin. One source said Prigioni is “exploring” whether he has a desire to be a personnel man.”

Prigioni only played for four seasons in the NBA, with the last one in the 2015-16 campaign, suiting up for the L.A. Clippers. However, he was one of the best players in Europe in his prime, spending most of his professional career in Spain. He won the Spanish Cup MVP Award in 2006 and was named to the All-EuroLeague Second Team twice as well.

It remains to be seen if the veteran court general with decide to join the Nets. If he is indeed hired, he could become an important addition to their staff and will prove that not all changes should be with the players, but also with the personnel a team has in place to improve their performances on the court.
