Standing at 6-foot-10, there's no doubt that Kevin Durant of the Brooklyn Nets is the owner of some of the best handles among NBA big men today. Recently, the 31-year-old was asked about his impressive ability to handle the rock and how this came to be, given his stature.
Durant took the time to respond to this random query on Twitter, and narrated how he unknowingly grew five inches taller in one summer.
I was the starting 2 guard on JV at 6’3 my freshman year. I came back to the gym that summer and one of my boys was like “did u realize you’re like 6’8?” I looked at him like 🤔 nah I did not realize This. Went back to shooting jumpers https://t.co/oa5zUDaY4y

Growth spurts aren't uncommon for boys at this age, but for one to grow five full inches in the span of a few months is definitely something else. This gives us a good idea of exactly why Durant handles the ball so well despite being nearly 7-foot tall.
Prior to the league suspension brought about by the global coronavirus pandemic, some folks were hoping that we would see Durant take the floor again at some point this season, especially considering how the Nets are battling for a playoff spot. This report was refuted several times by the two-time NBA champ himself, and there does not seem to be any change in this regard despite the season schedule being pushed back significantly.
The expectation is that the Nets will have Durant sit out the remainder of this season to have him one hundred percent healthy for the start of the 2020-21 campaign. If anything, this current delay is only providing more time for Durant in his road to recovery.
