When Kevin Durant went down fighting in Game 5 of the 2019 NBA Finals and ruptured his Achilles, everyone automatically assumed that he will miss the entire 2019-20 season.

Somewhere along the way, rumors that the newly-minted Brooklyn Nets superstar would return to the court at some point this season began to circulate.

Durant, however, already shut those rumors down and confirmed that he will spend the entire season to recover from the possibly career-altering injury. Durant, likewise, insisted that, while others may chime in or sympathize with him for his injury, he ultimately makes his own decisions when it comes to his health, per Michael Lee of The Athletic.

“When I went down, I felt like everybody wanted to put their arms of protection around me from people I didn’t know to my best friend in Kyrie. I felt like everybody was real protective of me, around this time and I feel like it will continue to be that way, especially involving my health,” Durant said, pausing for effect. “But I make my own decisions.”

When Durant went down, the general public that has grown to hate Durant for his decision to go to Golden State eventually turned into his sympathizers. Fans appreciated his dedication to his team and he paid the ultimate price in doing so: a season of his prime down the drain.

On the contrary, many also blamed the Warriors organization for essentially forcing him to play despite being obviously hurt. However, as Durant reiterated and said before, it was ultimately up to him to play in Game 5.

Since that day, Kevin Durant hasn't placed the blame on anyone for his injury, not even the Warriors. KD is his own man and he owns up to every outcome that comes from his decisions.
