Kevin Durant had another outstanding performance for the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday, as the Nets faced off against the Los Angeles Clippers in the Barclays Center. Tuesday's contest was just Durant's 17th game in a Nets jersey, but as it turns out, it was all he needed to make a bit of history with his new squad.
By eclipsing the 500-point mark against the Clippers in just 17 games, Durant became the second-fastest player in league history to reach this scoring milestone with a new team. This comes via ESPN Stats & Info on Twitter:
FROM ELIAS: Kevin Durant reached 500 points with the Nets in just 17 games. That is tied for the 2nd-fastest a player has reached 500 points with a team in NBA history. Only Wilt Chamberlain did it faster with the Warriors in 1959-60 (14 games). pic.twitter.com/WpojGnZMic

As the above tidbit stated, only the great Wilt Chamberlain achieved a similar feat in fewer games. The Hall of Fame big man is widely regarded as the greatest scorer in NBA history — after all, he's the only player to have ever reached the 100-point mark — so to be merely mentioned in the same breath as Wilt is an absolute honor for Durant.
Let's also not forget that KD is coming off an Achilles injury that forced him to sit out the entirety of the 2019-20 campaign. It was considered by many as a career-threatening injury — and for good reason. Not many have come back as the same player following an Achilles tear, but for his part, it doesn't even look like Durant missed a beat. Needless to say, his ability to overcome such a gruesome injury is yet another achievement in what has been an illustrious career for the 32-year-old. And he isn't even close to done yet.
