The Brooklyn Nets have been dealing with the Kyrie Irving saga since before this NBA season began. Irving opted to not receive the COVID-19 vaccine, and based on state law, he has not been allowed to play home games in the state of New York or join team activities. That prompted the organization to decide to disallow his from joining the team on the road either. That has left the Nets looking to move the star guard.
Reportedly, the Dallas Mavericks and Brooklyn Nets recently were in discussions for a possible trade involving Kyrie Irving. According to SNY's NBA Insider Ian Begley, during those discussions, Kristaps Porzingis was brought up.
However, it is unknown exactly how far along those talks got and if they even got past the preliminary stage. The trade would make a lot of sense.
Porzingis is a big that can stretch the floor offensively and rebound the ball. Brooklyn could use his work on the glass, as the Nets rank 19th in the league in rebounding. Dallas would probably love to get his contract off the books as well.
Porzingis is slated to make over $31 million this season, over $33 million next season and he has a player option for $36 million the year afterward. Knowing the injury history of Porzingis, it would be surprising if he did not pick up that option.

Cuban's response does not come as a surprise. There had been optimism of late that Irving would eventually suit up for the Nets, but a trade is the still the most likely scenario.
