Spencer Dinwiddie has been one of the most important pieces of the Brooklyn Nets over the past couple of years and nearly won the Most Improved Player award last season. This season, Dinwiddie has picked up where he left off and would like to make sure he stays with the Nets long-term.

According to Michael Scotto of The Athletic, Dinwiddie would like to sign an extension with the Nets at some point in the near future. The guard is eligible for an extension on Dec. 8 and could receive up to a four-year, $48 million deal.

“Oh, I mean, I’d love to have one. I’d love to be here. This organization has shown me hospitality and given me an opportunity like I haven’t had in the NBA before, so I’m definitely indebted to them, and if they decide to sign me, I’d be one of the happiest players in the league.”

Throughout the first eight games of the season with the Nets, Dinwiddie has continued his role as the team's sixth man. He has averaged 14.9 points to go along with 3.6 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game. Dinwiddie has shot 48.9 percent from the field overall and has knocked down 43.5 percent of his 3-point attempts.

At 25 years old, the Nets would be wise to get something done with him as soon as possible. Dinwiddie is one of the most talented players on their roster and still has plenty of room to grow his game.

Brooklyn is in a position where it is trying to rebuild its roster the right way. Keeping Dinwiddie around will be a crucial part of getting them back into playoff contention.

It will be interesting to see if the two sides can come together on a new deal. Dinwiddie will hit free agency at the end of the 2018-19 NBA season if he doesn't get an extension done.
