The Boston Celtics entered the 2019 NBA season with title hopes, but chemistry issues and poor play eventually ended up grounding any chance of them competing for a championship. With free agency now fast approaching, many believe Kyrie Irving to depart from the Celtics, and a recent report has stated the Brooklyn Nets could be an option.

According to a report from Ben Standig of NBC Sports Washington via Bleacher Report, he advised people to not “sleep” on the Nets getting involved in the Irving sweepstakes once things kick off in July.

Although the New York Knicks have already been highly speculated as a potential landing spot for Irving, it seems as if the Nets are now also in play to try and sign him.

Of course, for the Nets to do so, they’d have to do a bit of retooling to their lineup. Point guard D’Angelo Russell is a restricted free agent and would likely have to leave in order for Irving to come, as the team wouldn’t really be able to pay Russell, Irving, and Spencer Dinwiddie.

Other than that, however, it isn’t exactly impossible, as the Nets do have enough cap room to go after a couple of high-priced players.

While the Celtics will be trying their best to keep Irving, many reports out of Boston seem to indicate that Irving’s style of leadership was not well accepted in Boston, and could have possibly led to their poor play in 2019.

If Irving does end up leaving Boston, many view the Knicks as the heavy favorite to land him, along with Kevin Durant.

This is only speculation, however, and it’s important to note that things usually change once players step into meetings with these teams.
