Boston Celtics president Danny Ainge is still in the mix for the Kawhi Leonard sweepstakes, though he warns no potential blockbuster deals would be coming from his side of the negotiating table.

“If I feel like it'll help our team — we explore every trade of players of certain magnitude or superstar, first-ballot Hall of Fame-type of players,” Ainge said Friday, according to ESPN's Chris Forsberg. “We're going to take a look and kick the tires and see if there's something there. But that's all.”

“I think those things are unlikely.”

Kicking the tires is the perfect way to describe it, as the San Antonio Spurs have yet to fully commit to trading Leonard, still holding out to hope that they could solve issues internally and offer him a five-year, $219 million supermax contract extension.

Talks between the Spurs and other teams are only exploratory at this point, as San Antonio will listen, but not act until it is presented with a deal that will prove too much to resist.

The Celtics, fresh off a blockbuster deal from last season, are unlikely to go all out for Leonard, already having their prized free agent in the injured Gordon Hayward.

Boston recently took the young talents of Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum off any potential trades, likely nixing any chances they have to land Leonard.
