The Dallas Mavericks fired Nico Harrison as general manager in early November. However, since then, Anthony Davis, the player Harrison traded for in the controversial Luka Doncic trade, has not said much about the organization's decision. On Wednesday, Davis finally broke his silence.

While talking with media members, the 32-year-old center admitted he was surprised by Harrison's firing, according to Mike Curtis of The Dallas Morning News. Anthony Davis also claims that it was tough to see Harrison go, but ultimately, he understood that it was a business decision made by the Mavericks.

“It was surprising more than anything,” said Davis. “Nico's my guy. He played a huge part in getting me here and wanting me to fulfill his vision that he saw. It was definitely tough. Me and him had a conversation. Me and Patrick had a conversation. It's the business of basketball.”

Although the decision to fire Nico Harrison was a shock to Anthony Davis, it wasn't for the fanbase, nor, really, anyone else outside of the franchise. The decision to trade Doncic in his prime away to the Los Angeles Lakers for Davis was, and still is, one of the most shocking trade moves in league history.

Since being traded to the Mavericks, the 10-time All-Star has only managed to play in 14 games. Nico Harrison pounded the drum for several months that if injuries had not plagued the team last season, then Dallas would have been a playoff contender. Instead, the team missed the postseason in the 2024-25 campaign, and injuries have continued to be a problem for this team.

Davis is currently dealing with a calf injury that has him listed as day-to-day. So, he's expected to return at some point. In the five games he has played so far this season, Anthony Davis is averaging 20.8 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game while shooting 52.0% from the field and 27.3% from beyond the arc.

With Harrison out of the picture, trade speculation surrounds Anthony Davis. With the team seemingly aiming to build around Cooper Flagg, finding a trade partner to move on from Davis is certainly in the realm of possibilities.
