Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd made a surprising move on Monday night, following the team's loss to Sacramento. Kidd skipped the postgame media conference, per The Dallas Morning News.
The move truly baffled the assembled reporters.
“I’ve covered the NBA for 13 seasons and never before seen this,” NBA reporter Tim Cato said on X, formerly Twitter.
The Mavericks lost in overtime with just a few seconds left in the game to the Kings, 129-128. Dallas made a shot with just seconds left, but then Kings star DeMar DeRozan made a circus shot to win the game with just 1.9 seconds left on the clock. It was heartbreak for a Mavericks team suffering from the fallout of trading away Luka Doncic.
Dallas is now 28-26 on the season.
Mavericks fans have erupted in anger since Luka Doncic left

Mavericks fans have voiced their anger with management, following the decision to trade Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. The Mavericks ejected some fans from the game on Monday night, for criticizing general manager Nico Harrison. Minority governor Mark Cuban was also seen shouting at fans.
A team spokesperson said that the fans were violating the NBA's rule of conduct.
“In the first incident, the guest brought in a sign that broke the following rule included in the NBA Code of Conduct: Clothing, garments or signs displaying explicit language, profanity or derogatory characterization towards any person(s),” Mavericks vice president of corporate communications Erin Finegold said in a statement, per ESPN.
Outside the arena in Dallas, hundreds of fans gathered in recent days to protest the trade. Mavericks governor Patrick Dumont was also booed during the Kings game, on Monday night.
In light of all of this, it's not hard to see why Kidd wouldn't want to talk to the press. Kidd is in many ways the face of the team's front office, although he didn't have anything to do with the trade.
Dallas next plays the Golden State Warriors Tuesday night.
