On Monday evening, the Dallas Mavericks dropped to 1-3 on the young 2025 NBA season with a home loss against the reigning NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder. It was a rough game from number one overall draft pick Cooper Flagg, who scored just two points against last year's number one ranked defense in the NBA.
However, one player who did have a good game was Max Christie, who scored 14 points and has gotten off to a strong start to the season.
Recently, Christie got 100% real on his mindset amid the hot start in his first full year in Dallas.
“Any time that you can see the fruits of your labor, it's definitely a good feeling. But I think I'm always focused on the team more than I am myself, so it feels great to be shooting well… but I think it's important, we are 1-3, so we need to address that as the main concern, the main focus,” said Christie, per Joey Mistretta on X, formerly Twitter.
Meanwhile, head coach Jason Kidd had strong praise for Christie.
“He's playing great… Shooting the three well. He's competing on the defensive end. I thought he had some great looks early (vs. Thunder last night), knocked some down and then knocked some down for us late. But he's been playing well, at a high level for us early here in the season.”
An intriguing young piece

Max Christie was the “other” player that the Dallas Mavericks got back alongside Anthony Davis in the disastrous Luka Doncic trade. While everyone on planet Earth not named Nico Harrison would rescind that trade in a heartbeat (not including Lakers fans) if they could, Mavericks fans are still more than happy to see Christie balling out to start the year.
Still, as Christie noted, the team has been struggling despite a shocking five straight home games to open up the season.
That streak will continue on Wednesday when they host the Indiana Pacers at 8:30 PM ET before finally hitting the road later in the week.
