The Dallas Mavericks are crushing it in this year's playoffs, much to everyone's surprise. When news of Luka Doncic's injury broke out, many were worried for the team. After all, their entire offense ran around the Slovenian phenom. With their superstar out, who will be there to take up the load?

As it turns out, a former NCAA champion is there to pick up the slack. Jalen Brunson has been absolutely phenomenal for the Mavs in the playoffs. He led the Doncic-led team to a huge road win against the Utah Jazz in Game 3, much to the delight of NFL superstar Patrick Mahomes.

Newer fans or those that don't follow the NFL might be confused why a big star like Patrick Mahomes is rooting for the Mavs. The reason is simple: Mahomes is a Texas boy through and through. The Chiefs star was born and raised in Texas, even making a name for himself in college there. It's no surprise that Mahomes is rooting for the only Texas team in the playoffs.

As for the Mavs, the team has been rolling in the playoffs against one of the better teams in the league. Jalen Brunson has rightfully gotten attention for his stellar play for the team. However, there are other guys that have stepped up for the team. Spencer Dinwiddie is leading the bench in Brunson's stead. The rest of the supporting cast has also done their job wonderfully.

After a sloppy start to the season, the Mavs have solidified their status as one of the best in the league. We'll see if they can carry over this momentum amid Luka Doncic's imminent return.
