Dallas Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki got a street named after him on Wednesday after having a Hall of Fame career with the Mavs.

However, Nowitzki's career didn't get off to a great start and some were wondering if the 7-footer was going to be a bust.

Nowitzki joked about his tough rookie season on Wednesday, saying that the city of Dallas wouldn't have named a dumpster after him.

It's safe to say Nowitzki rebounded nicely after his rookie season. Dirk is unarguably the best player in franchise history, and he will certainly be a first-ballot Hall of Famer one day.

Nowitzki finished his NBA career with averages of 20.7 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists. He was a 14-time All-Star, the 2007 regular season MVP, and the 2011 Finals MVP after leading the Mavs to the championship over LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and the Miami Heat.

During his rookie season, Nowitzki put up just 8.2 points while shooting 40.5 percent from the field and a woeful 20.6 percent from beyond the arc. Dirk worked hard in the summer of 1999 and showed in his sophomore season with the Mavs that he was going to be a stud for a long time. Nowitzki increased his scoring average to 17.5.

The Mavs will retire Nowitzki's No. 41 jersey soon. He will always be loved in Dallas.
