Much to the chagrin of Mavs fans everywhere, beloved big man Dirk Nowitzki isn't quite ready yet to make his season debut for the team per ESPN's Tim MacMahon:
Dirk Nowitzki says he still isn't quite ready to make his season debut. "We don't really have a set date in mind, but we'll keep on pushing." He has made significant recent progress.

Nowitzki hasn't played in the 2018-19 campaign due to an ankle injury but he remains hopeful that he'll be able to return to action at some point in the future. The 20-year NBA veteran, now 40-years-old, has spent his entire career with the Mavs and it's well-known that the 13-time All-Star wants to retire in the near future.
Nonetheless, it's certainly positive to see Nowitzki's health moving in the right direction. Though the Mavs have done a solid job in his absence, posting a 13-11 record that has them eighth in the Western Conference standings with star rookie Luka Doncic's 18.2 points per game (with 38.4 percent shooting from 3-point range) leading the charge .
Nowitzki averaged 12.0 points and 5.7 rebounds in playing 77 games last season and he's totaled over 31,100 points in what's been a stellar NBA career that's seen him amass numerous All-Star and All-NBA selections while earning both NBA and NBA Finals MVP honors.
Though Doncic has played a big role in helping Dallas reel off a lot of wins after struggling to a 3-8 start to open up the new campaign, there's no doubt that he would love to get the chance to step on the court with Nowitzki and that the fans want to see the Mavs leader return to the court as well.
