This weekend in Charlotte, Dallas Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki will become only the second 40-year-old in NBA history to play in an All-Star game. NBA Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was the first ever to do it at that age.

Sunday will be Dirk Nowitzki's 14th NBA All-Star game. NBA commissioner Adam Silver added the Mavs great and Miami Heat shooting guard Dwyane Wade as special additions to the All-Star roster. Nowitzki will be on Team Giannis.

Dirk signed a one-year deal with the Mavs in the summer. Unlike Wade, Nowitzki hasn't announced if this is going to be his last season in the NBA. However, it's looking like it will be, so Silver wanted to make sure the German great would be at All-Star weekend so the fans could see him play in the world's great pickup game one last time.

Hopefully, Nowitzki hits a couple of 3-pointers for old times' sake.

Nowitzki has scored 113 points in his 13 All-Star games. The most points he's ever scored was 22 back in 2010. The future Hall of Famer is appreciative of Silver adding him to the roster and all the love he has received from fans this season.

The NBA is really going to miss Nowitzki when he retires from the league.
