The Detroit Pistons are discussing an Andre Drummond trade with a number of teams, including the Atlanta Hawks. Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo Sports reports that the Boston Celtics, Dallas Mavericks and Toronto Raptors have also registered interest in trading for Drummond, but a high-ranking Mavs official said as recently as two weeks ago that adding Drummond made no sense for the team, according to Brad Townsend of the Dallas Morning News:

The Mavs already have All-Star power forward Kristaps Porzingis. Pairing him with Drummond would clog up driving lanes for superstar Luka Doncic since Drummond can't shoot jumpers.

Drummond has a player option worth $28.8 million for next season. If he declines, the All-Star big man would become an unrestricted free agent after this season ends.

Drummond is averaging 17.6 points, 15.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.8 blocks per game this season for the Pistons, who are 12-23. Andre is shooting 53.7 percent from the field and 61.4 percent from the free-throw line.

The Mavs are 22-12 on the season. They are in fifth place in the Western Conference Finals, but expected to be without Porzingis for a few games. KP is dealing with right knee soreness.

The good news for the Mavs is that Porzingis' left knee is good. That's the knee he tore his left ACL in 2017-18 with the New York Knicks.

We'll see if the Mavs do end up trading for Drummond. Most league insiders expect the Pistons to move Drummond before the February trade deadline.
