It's been a peculiar season for Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks. Though they managed to pull off a much-needed win over the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday, Doncic missed another triple-double by a single assist after tallying 30 points, 10 rebounds, and nine dimes.
If you ask him, his numbers don't really matter at the end of it all as long as they got the W, but the sensation from Slovenia has been on a triple-double drought that's worth going in on.
Doncic missed his 10th triple-double this season by a single assist, which forced StatMuse to pull up some mildly interesting numbers on the Mavericks superstar.
Mildly interesting stat:
Luka hasn’t recorded a triple-double in his last 17 games.
The last one he had was over a month ago.
He had 9 triple-doubles this season before this stretch. pic.twitter.com/bE0FPvibSk

According to the numbers, Doncic is on a 17-game drought and has seemingly lost some pace after tallying nine triple-doubles earlier this season. Obviously, this isn't a matter of concern for the Mavericks but it is worth noting that it's been a full calendar month since Luka Magic put up magical numbers.
For the average player, this is totally normal. But for Doncic, who has spoiled us all with stellar numbers in his young NBA career, this is definitely unusual (via Callie Caplan of Dallas News).
Luka triple-double watch: 27 points, 9 rebounds, 9 assists.
He hasn't notched one since March 15 against the Clippers, which feels reasonable by normal standards but like a drought by his.

With the win over the Pistons, Luka Doncic and the Mavericks did end up breaking their four-game losing streak, helping them cling on to the seventh spot in the Western Conference. They have 15 games left to try and climb up a spot or two to take out the burden of the play-in tournament, starting with a back-to-back homestand against the defending champion Los Angeles Lakers.
