It's long been known that Luka Doncic is set to be Dirk Nowitzki's successor in Dallas. The two are Europeans drafted by the Mavs to be the franchise cornerstone, and so far, the Slovenian phenom has lived up to expectations. Luka-mania has captivated the hearts of Mavericks fans everywhere, as Doncic has led the team to huge regular-season wins and two straight appearances in the playoffs.
Today, another dose of Luka magic has been administered to Mavs fans, as Doncic hit an insane buzzer-beater to put the Boston Celtics away.
That game-winner has put Luka Doncic in rarefied Mavs air. According to ESPN, that shot from the Slovenian superstar has put him on par with Nowitzki for most buzzer-beating threes for the franchise (including the playoffs).

Considering that Doncic is only in his fourth season with the Mavs, it's a fair assumption to say that the Mavs phenom will overtake the German legend Nowitzki at some point. Doncic has a penchant for hitting these buzzer-beating threes to win the game: he has done it twice in the playoffs already (both times against the Los Angeles Clippers). His killer mentality in the clutch is reminiscent of Nowitzki, who has come through for Dallas multiple times in his career.
Interestingly, the all-time leader for most buzzer-beating game-winning threes is another former Mavs player: Vince Carter. Can Doncic overtake Nowitzki and eventually Carter in this list? Given Luka's track record, I think it's safe to say he'll edge out these Mavs legends and become the greatest Maverick of all-time.
