Dallas Mavericks star guard Luka Doncic couldn't quite stick the landing after hitting a ridiculous, circus-like shot following a foul against the Los Angeles Lakers Thursday night.

While the shot didn't count, as the referee ruled the penalty came before Luka began his shooting motion, it was still was a highlight-worthy sequence from a player who has made a habit of pulling off top plays.

We don't care what anyone says, this deserves to count just because of how amazing it looked (Video via NBA Hustle):

With the Mavericks attempting to hold off a second-half run after initially gaining a double-digit lead over the defending champions, Doncic tried to build a head of steam and gain separation from the LA defense by going over a double-screen set just above the arc.

Anticipating the action, a trailing Dennis Schroder fought his way past the larger Dwight Powell in an attempt to place his body in front of Luka. Unfortunately for the Lakers point guard, Doncic had already gained position and took advantage of the out-of-place Schroder by rising up and baiting him into a foul.

While the ref ruled the action dead, Luka had just enough time to fire away a desperation shot that got nothing but net. Sadly, he wasn't quite smooth enough to finish the play, careening off-balance into the scorers' table and crashing to the ground.

Thankfully for Mavs fans, Doncic appeared fine following the sequence and was able to remain in the game, where the Lakers and Mavericks are locked in a tight game down the stretch.

With the Mavs looking to rise up the Western Conference standings, Dallas could benefit from a few more trick shots from Luka Doncic. Hopefully, they count next time.
