After one of the more erratic performances of what has been a dazzling rookie campaign, Dallas Mavericks guard/forward Luka Doncic went back to work. Doncic, who was questionable to even play Tuesday against San Antonio due to a left knee strain, took the court and logged 34 minutes, a decision that head coach Rick Carlisle expressed regret for after the game.

But Doncic wasn't done there. According to Bobby Karella of the Mavericks, Doncic headed down to the practice court for some extra shots after Tuesday's defeat.

Seemingly nothing went right for Doncic on the floor Tuesday. He shot a brutal 5-for-18 overall, including 1-for-7 from long range. He shot 1-for-9 from the free-throw stripe and tied his career high with nine turnovers. The Mavs were close in the end but ultimately came out on the losing side, dropping their six straight contest, giving them the second-worst record in the Western Conference.

Even if it appears that Carlisle wants to scale back Doncic's workload after Tuesday's clunker, Doncic doesn't seem interested in scaling himself back. The Mavs wunderkind has averaged 20.9 points, 7.4 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game during his first taste of professional basketball, playing the majority of the year as a 19-year-old.

Doncic has seen the landscape change around him in many ways during his first taste of the NBA, but it appears he's already on board with the idea of utilizing the practice court after games to his advantage. There's not likely to be a playoff berth for Dallas in 2018-19, but Doncic is already working with his eyes toward one in 2019-20.
