In a recent interview, Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle detailed his experiences during the coronavirus-forced hiatus. These included wishing ESPN broadcaster Doris Burke a get well note. Burke reportedly tested positive for COVID-19 last March.
The Dallas Morning News highlighted some of Carlisle’s praises for the analyst’s groundbreaking work:
If you want an example for your young daughter about somebody that basically has been able to carve out an amazing niche in what was always presumed to be a man’s world, Doris Burke now is one of the most respected broadcasters in the business.
According to ESPN, Burke felt initial symptoms around the time the NBA abruptly suspended their season. She was then tested a week later, and got positive results after a few days. Fortunately, she has since been symptom-free.

Doris Burke is as a well-respected broadcaster around the league. She started her career in 1991, covering basketball with ESPN. She finally became the first female full-time NBA game analyst in 2017.
With regard to the current situation, Carlisle stated that he’s focusing on social distancing and stressing its importance to his Mavs players just the same. He then reiterated the uncertainty regarding a possible season continuation, emphasizing that he has no “authority to really comment on any of that stuff.” However, the Mavs coach noted that their team has kept in touch with its players.
The league is still reluctant in making a final decision regarding the rest of the season. For now, fans and players alike should focus on staying healthy and doing their part to counter the global epidemic.
