Jason Kidd's time as the Dallas Mavericks' head coach is off to a rocky start as he rolls out a rather interesting plan for Luka Doncic and the rest of the team. As training camp continues and the Mavs slowly adapt to their new system under Kidd, the former NBA champion appears to be quite unfamiliar with his team and social media let him hear it.

In a recent interview with Callie Caplan of Dallas News, the 48-year-old coach mentioned that the Mavs will be taking far fewer three-pointers compared to last season despite having guys like Doncic, Kristaps Porzigis, and Tim Hardaway, Jr. in his starting unit.

“We're not just going to rely on jump shooting because that can leave you at any part of the season or in the playoffs,” Kidd explained. “If that happens, you don't have anything to fall back on, and that means an early exit.”

For context, Doncic has a career shooting rate of 33% from outside the arc while Porzingis and Hardaway both shoot 36% for their respective careers. The Mavs also added a few more shooters this offseason in Reggie Bullock and Sterling Brown but, at least according to Kidd, three-pointers won't be their main point of attack. Clearly, the Mavs want to put up those threes.

Kidd's new outlook for the Mavs immediately got roasted on social media. Both Dallas and non-Dallas fans didn't mince their words as they mocked the Mavs' new head coach for his rather absurd take when it comes to his team's perimeter shooting:

In a sea of hatred and laughter, Bobby Karalla, the team's digital content manager, put things in proper context:

Whether it's simply a ‘mindset' or an actual strategy, it will be interesting to see how Kidd will manage things in his first season as the Mavs' head coach. If he wasn't already under a microscope prior to season tip-off, he's surely under one now.
