Despite every NBA team having a spoon into the Kyrie Irving trade pot that overflowed on Friday with the news of his request, the Dallas Mavericks aren't willing to take a ladle to scoop up the 25-year-old star.
While it's likely that the Cleveland Cavaliers will want a young asset in return for his services, the Mavs aren't willing to ship out rookie point guard Dennis Smith Jr. after a very promising Summer League display, according to Scout.com's Mike Fisher.
Irving would give the Mavs a win-now mentality as a perennial scorer and sure-fire All-Star at the point guard position, but the team knows they'd be forced to give up the farm in any exchange with the Cavs, rendering the team uninterested.

The Mavericks are taking a potential risk worth of their namesake for not reaching out to the Cavaliers, giving them a rather established, proven star at a young age to move forward with — but as it is, the team does not possess that many other assets contractually that would make Cleveland be willing to give him up.
