The trade deadline moves closer and closer, as only to days remain before Thursday's Feb. 7 cutoff date that could mark the last chance for the Detroit Pistons to acquire some talent to fight for a playoff spot. Head coach Dwane Casey has been aware of the rumors surrounding the likes of Reggie Bullock and the potential acquisition of Mike Conley Jr., but he won't bother with trade chatter as long as there are games to close out before the All-Star break.
“A lot of times, it’s a lot of noise that signifies nothing. It’s a lot of trade talk but general managers talk every day,” Casey said Monday, according to Rod Beard of The Detroit News. “Some of it is noise and some is general managers trying to get things done. The key thing is that everybody has to go out and do their job and pay attention to what they’re supposed to right in front of them and control the things you can control.
Casey, who won the Coach of the Year award last season by leading the Toronto Raptors to a franchise-best 59 wins, is now in a sensitive spot with the Pistons 1.5 games out of the playoffs after a rousing start to the season.

The Pistons (23-29) have split their last 10 games and are in danger of missing out in the postseason if some help doesn't come their way. Detroit could make some swift, yet significant moves to improve the bench depth and perhaps bring home a quality point guard by upgrading to Conley, who is on his way out of Memphis.
Casey can only focus on what's in front of him, but undoubtedly any help The Motor City can reel in during the next couple of days would be welcomed with open arms.
