The past 17 months have been one heck of a rollercoaster ride for the Golden State Warriors and superstar Klay Thompson. On Wednesday, shocking news broke out that Thompson apparently injured his lower foot once again.
The latest word out of Bay Area is that Thompson might have injured his right Achilles but nothing official has yet to surface as an MRI is still scheduled for Thursday. Prior to this, the 30-year old has been working on his left knee after he tore his left ACL in Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors.
Though Thompson showed incredible progress en route to a 2020-2021 comeback, that's all seemingly for naught as the five-time All-Star looks to be headed towards the sidelines yet again.
With Stephen Curry and Draymond Green coming back healthy this season, as well as their promising rookie in James Wiseman, the Warriors looked to challenge the reigning 2020 NBA Champions Los Angeles Lakers. Although they're more whispers than loud demands, questions on whether or not the franchise should already move on and possibly trade away their prized superstar have somewhat emerged.
Even without official word on Thompson's current status, it doesn't really make sense for the Warriors to split up the “Splash Brothers” and trade away one of their best weapons – at least right now.
Thompson signed a five-year max deal prior to last season and has proven his loyalty to the franchise. He has thrived as a number two option behind Curry and was was also equally impressive even when he dropped to a third option when Kevin Durant was still there. With his potent scoring ability, it's quite certain that Thompson will shine a primary option for a ton of teams in the league and there are a few superstars out there who the Warriors can possibly trade for to replace Thompson at the two spot.

Things haven't been ideal for Golden State this past year and 2020 couldn't have had a worse turn for them after yet again losing Thompson to a foot injury with a few weeks left before training camp. But, the championship core of Curry, Thompson and Green has garnered enough success for the Warriors and breaking this up right now just doesn't make any sense.
Right now, they have a handful of young, promising talent in Andrew Wiggins and even Eric Paschall who can fill-in as a starter to help Curry and Green. Though these two won't be as efficient as Thompson in terms of scoring and are still miles away in terms of Thompson's defensive presence on the floor, they've proven in their short stints in Golden State that they can perform when the situation calls them too.
As mentioned earlier, they also have something to look forward to in their second overall pick this year and if Wiseman proves the franchise right, the Warriors, even without Thompson, should be headed in the right direction.
Whether or not Thompson's most recent injury will force him to miss a huge chunk of the upcoming NBA season, the Warriors will have to remain patient and work with the guys they have on the floor.
For now, the rest of Dub Nation would have to patiently wait as the world intently anticipates an update on Thompson's status.
