It seemed far-fetched entering the 2023 offseason that Chris Paul would become a member of the Golden State Warriors. But now, with the Warriors' 2023-24 season opener against the Phoenix Suns being mere hours away from tipping off, the Point God has now teamed up with his former rivals via trade, giving the Warriors an added dash of playmaking, trickery, and gamesmanship.
Paul acknowledged that coming up against the Suns, after spending three seasons with the team, will take a bit of getting used to; in fact, the Warriors point guard pointed out that lining up against Devin Booker will need a bit of adjustment period, as he has built such a close relationship with his former backcourt mate in the years they spent together — even making it to the NBA Finals together back in 2021. Even then, the Point God knows that it will be fun facing Booker on the court alongside his new teammates.
“Man it's crazy. Me and Book, we're so close, going to be like that for life. Obviously he's been on my team for the last three years, so it'll be interesting to play against him for the first time [in three years] tomorrow. But I'm sure after the first couple of minutes, it'll be like it was when I was in OKC, in Houston all that before. But it definitely should be fun,” Paul said, via ClutchPoints beat reporter Trevor Booth.

The matchup between the Suns and Warriors on opening night should be fun indeed. In addition to the Chris Paul versus Devin Booker former teammate subplot, the Kevin Durant against Stephen Curry matchup never gets old, and Klay Thompson was also in his feelings when he faced Booker back October of last year.
It's too bad that Draymond Green will be missing that matchup, as he could have pushed this matchup even more over the top in terms of entertainment value due to the fracas potential the Warriors enforcer brings on a nightly basis.
It'll be interesting to witness as well just how much gas Chris Paul has left in the tank seeing as he's already 38 years of age. The last time Paul was counted out by pundits, he put in a renaissance season back in 2019-20. Can he do it again, this time for the Warriors' benefit?
