Has Kevin Durant surpassed LeBron James as the best player in the NBA? FOX Sports host Colin Cowherd seems to think so.
Following Durant's performance against the Memphis Grizzlies in which he made 12 of his 13 field goal attempts, Cowherd said that, at this point of their careers, Durant is better than James, citing KD's efficiency as a big reason for that:
"We've always known there would be a time when Kevin Durant would surpass LeBron on the floor… The aging star vs. the rising star. I think that time is today." — @ColinCowherd pic.twitter.com/MQuNKgzs4X

Kevin Durant is certainly having a remarkable season, as he is averaging 26.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 1.1 blocks over 35.2 minutes per game while shooting 51.6 percent from the floor, 35.1 percent from 3-point range and 88.5 percent from the free-throw line.
But, the funny thing is, these are hardly some of the best numbers of Durant's career, and as a matter of fact, his rather average 3-point percentage is his lowest since 2011 and is considerably below his career mean of 38.1 percent.
Article Continues BelowHowever, given James' decline and the fact that he was not even healthy for a good portion of this season, the argument that Durant is now better than LeBron is one that can at least be entertained.
Is it necessarily true? Maybe not exactly, as we probably have to give James another year before we can say for sure that he is ready to pass the torch to Durant, but the gap is certainly much closer now than it has ever been.
Heck, many felt that Durant surpassed James after beating him in the Finals during his first season with the Golden State Warriors back in 2017, but that just was not true at the time.
In 2019, however, it is a topic that is much more open to discussion.
