Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green didn't believe the hype when it came to Charlotte Hornets rookie LaMelo Ball.

Green revealed during an appearance on ESPN's “First Take” he would receive texts from his mother, Mary Babers-Green, about Ball's talent. The former Defensive Player of the Year initially brushed the praise aside, suggesting Ball might just be a stat-stuffer.

But Warriors veteran's opinion on the No. 3 overall pick changed when he sat down to watch:

“My mom would call me earlier in the year [and say], ‘LaMelo is good,’” Green said, via UPROXX. “And I’m like, “Ah, ma. He’s putting up stats but a lot of people put up stats. I’m not sure I believe the stats.’ I hadn’t really watched him play.

“And as I’ve watched him play … my goodness. I texted my mom not long ago. I said, ‘Mom. You were right. LaMelo is problem.’ I love his game. He’s super fast. I had no clue he’s fast and downhill like that.”

Of course, there had been pre-draft speculation the Warriors could draft LaMelo at No. 2 overall, though the Dubs eventually opted for Memphis center James Wiseman.

Green said during the same interview he is still riding with Wiseman, whom he has taken to mentoring throughout the season. But Draymond still made sure to show Ball love.

For his part, Green has been trying to plug holes for the Warriors this season.

The 31-year-old has not been much of a scoring threat. But Green still sparks Golden State's offense with his playmaking (8.6 assists per game) and remains one of the team's tougher and more versatile defenders.

Green has always been more of a “prove it” kind of guy when it comes to assessing players. Ball has seemingly proven enough.
